Episode one in the Adventures with Josee series.
An early morning paddle with my best friend, Josee. We saw loons, a great blue heron, an immature eagle and lots of lily pads. Enjoy a peaceful paddle with us.
Yep, Josee and I took off on another adventure. This time down the Boardman River, one of my favorite paddles. Well, I can say, I’ve had better ideas. Out on a lake, she’s calm and looks around, sometimes gets excited if she sees a bird. But on the river–yikes!–whenever there was a rock or branch poking up, she had to investigate. If a bird flew by, oh my! Then there were the mallards that swam in front of us for at least a half mile. I thought she was going to dump us for sure. Alas, I made it to the end with dry clothes. I want to say it was due to my expert paddling skills, but honestly, it was pure luck!

What a beautiful morning out on the water. Josee is taking to kayaking like a pro.
First, we checked the eagle’s nest. At least one eaglet in there, screeching away at us. Then we saw two otters, popping their heads up, one, then the other, as curious about us as we were them. Then the loon called out from behind the island.
Another ten minutes and a trumpeter swan flew over, honking at us with his nasally squawk.
It doesn’t get any better than that.
Josee enjoyed her first sailing trip. Got her sea legs and stayed upright like a pro. Her little life jacket fits her perfectly too. Two handles makes it pretty handy if she does tumble into the lake.
Ever vigilant, she keeps an eye out for the ducks and geese that fly by as well as the motor boats.
All in all, I’d say she’s a pretty good first mate.
Hi all. I felt all the heartwarming love when I shared that my Tucker had passed away in October, then again when my Kloe passed away at Christmas. Your kind notes meant the world to me. So, with big smiles, I share that I’ve adopted a new friend, Josee. She’s 4 years old. I know nothing about her previous experiences. I believe she’s part English Springer Spaniel and part Border Collie. Mostly, she’s a bundle of joy. She’s not going to let me sit still, that’s for sure.
