As I walk the north woods, I listen for the white-throated sparrow. His Old-Sam-Peabody-Peabody song, to me, is the sound of the boreal forest. And the chickadee. When he calls “Hey Sweetie” I can’t help but call back.
There’s nothing like being on the water at dawn in a kayak, mist lifting from the lake, as a loon wails its mournful call. Something about that sound touches the primal part of my being. I love to watch the great blue heron stalk its prey. And the sandhill crane, majestic in its graceful dance.
This collection of photographs contains some of my favorite birds. Many of the images were made in Alaska, one of my favorite places on Earth.
Take a journey into the world of North America’s birds.
